Installing InterBase 2007 on certain Linux distributions

Abstract: Install fails with some Linux distributions

  • Product Name: Borland InterBase 2007
  • Product Component: Installer
  • Platform/OS Version: Linux

Description:

On certain Linux operating systems, executing the installer via the following commands:

  • sh install_linux.sh,
  • sh ./ib_install.bin -i Console (from the InterBase2007/Disk1/InstData/Linux/VM directory)

causes the installer to exhibit one of the following behaviours:

  • installer screen disappears silently
  • display several "error while loading shared libraries" messages

Resolution:

The above products are not officially supported or certified for use on certain Linux distributions, therefore CodeGear recommends, that customers wait until a certified version of the above products becomes available, however, the following steps can be followed if you need to run the above products on your particular distribution.

Assuming /media is the directory where the InterBase 2007 CD is mounted, and that there is a /tmp directory and sufficient space is available on the /tmp directory:

Change to the InterBase2007/Disk1/InstData/Linux/VM directory, then execute the following commands

1. cat ./ib_install.bin | sed 's/export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/#xport LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/g' > /tmp/ib_install.bin

2. chmod +x /tmp/ib_install.bin

3. /tmp/ib_install.bin

Run the following command, assuming InterBase 2007 is installed to /opt/interbase, in order to register the product:

/opt/interbase/LicenseManagerLauncher.sh
