Abstract: These notes provide important information about installing Delphi Prism XE
Delphi Prism 2011 Installation Notes are also on this page, below the Delphi Prism XE Installation Notes.
If you have a previous version of Delphi Prism installed, the installer will leave Visual Studio 2008 on your system and attempt to install Visual Studio 2010 Shell if Visual Studio 2010 isn't installed. Delphi Prism will be upgraded in place. It is notrequired to uninstall the previous version of Delphi Prism first. Delphi Prism XE will work in both versions of the Visual Studio Shell when upgrading.
The Delphi Prism installer can be used to install Delphi Prism as well as additional software.
Delphi Prism installs into Visual Studio 2010 or 2008. If you do not have Visual Studio installed on your system, the Delphi Prism installer automatically installs the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Shell.
It is recommended that you install the latest Service Pack for your version of Visual Studio or the Visual Studio Shell.
The Delphi Prism installer will install Mono™, the MonoDevelop IDE and the Delphi Prism Feature Pack if these are selected by the user. If you decide later you would like to install these, you can navigate to the Mono, MonoDevelop and FeaturePack folders on the DVD and install directly from there.
If you don't have any of the required software installed on a Windows Vista system, the installer installs the following, and between step 1 and 2, you need to re-boot your machine. After the reboot, you need to rerun the installer.
On XP systems, it may be necessary to install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 in addition to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. If so, you will also need to re-boot after installing .NET 3.5 and before installing .NET 4.0.
See Installing Optional, Add-on Products for information on the additional software.
If you want to use Microsoft Silverlight™, you must install it before you install Delphi Prism. Otherwise, you have to install Delphi Prism again after installing Silverlight.
The serial number you enter determines which edition (Professional or Enterprise) and which type of license (commercial, academic or trial) will be installed.
For Windows Vista, you must run as Administrator or be on the Administrator list to install the product.
The product can be installed by any licensed user with administrator privileges, and is immediately available to all licensed users of the same machine. It is also available to any licensed users you might add later.
Duplicate copies of assemblies installed in the GAC are provided in the <CommonFilesFolder>\CodeGear Shared\Delphi Prism\Shared Assemblies\7.0 directory. If C:\ is your Windows drive, the default <CommonFilesFolder> is C:\Program Files\Common Files\.
See the README.htm file for additional information about the product. For location information, see the opening paragraphs of this document.
If the product is purchased using Electronic Software Delivery, you receive a .zip file.
If you purchased Networked Licenses (managed by the Embarcadero License Server or FLEXlm) for Delphi Prism, you must follow these instructions to set up the install image or your users will be prompted for a serial number and be unable to install.

If installing from the Installation DVD or an ISO image, make sure that the "Install MonoDevelop and integrate Delphi Prism" option is checked. This option can be found under "MonoDevelop Integration" in the component selection page during the installation. This will install Mono, Gtk# for .NET and MonoDevelop and will also integrate Delphi Prism into MonoDevelop.
The "Delphi Prism with MonoDevelop" archive contains both MonoDevelop and Delphi Prism, so you don't need to have MonoDevelop installed before starting the product. The only prerequisite is the Mono framework. The package available from the Mono home page contains everything needed to run MonoDevelop.
Regardless of the platform, the first time you run the product and create a new project you will be prompted to provide your registration details. On Windows, you will have the option to provide that data on-site (requires Internet access) or to import a previously saved registration file. On a Mac, only the import option is available. If you don't have a registration file just follow the on-screen instruction to generate one. You will need the product serial number and your Embarcadero Developer Network (EDN) credentials. If needed, the registration code is displayed by the registration window.
Note: On Windows, it is possible that your "Delphi Prism with MonoDevelop" license and registration is already covered by another Embarcadero product (such as RAD Studio). In this case, if you have already registered that product, you will not be prompted to register again.

On German, French, or Japanese machines, uninstalling Delphi 2009 or C+Builder 2009 might fail if Delphi Prism has been installed. This happens because the Visual Studio Shell installer in Delphi Prism updates a version of the .NET Framework Language Pack that the Delphi/CBuilder 2009 uninstall depends on. To uninstall Delphi/CBuilder 2009, run Setup.exe from your Delphi/C+Builder 2009 DVD, install the .NET Framework Language Pack when prompted, and then select Uninstall when in Maintenance Mode.
To uninstall Delphi Prism, the Administrator who initially installed the product must open the Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs, select Delphi Prism and click the Remove button. Next select Delphi Prism Feature Pack and click the Remove button.
Please open a support case on the http://support.embarcadero.com website if you encounter any problems during installation.
