Abstract: Step-by-step instructions and explanation of the Delphi Prism 2011 install launcher and dialogs for installing on Windows
Install.exe is the install launcher. It’s important to run this launcher instead of DelphiPrismSetup.exe so you can see everything included on the DVD.
From here, we’ll install on Windows.
This brings up a language selection dialog. Your choice here affects the display of the install dialogs and process that follow.
In this example, we’ll select English and click “OK” to continue. This brings up the Delphi Prism installer.
Click “Next >” to continue
Review and agree to the license terms by clicking “I accept the agreement” and click “Next >”.
Enter your serial number from your order delivery email or trial serial number email and click “Next >” to continue. If you need a trial serial number, you can get one at http://downloads.embarcadero.com/free/delphi_prism.
You can change the install directory or leave the default and click “Next >” to continue.
Use this dialog to select or de-select components to install. For example, if you only want to use the Visual Studio based IDE, you can de-select MonoDevelop.
Delphi Prism includes and integrates some third party software and you must separately agree to the licenses for that software. Agree to the Mono license by selecting I accept the agreement and then click “Next >”.
You can select which Start Menu group you’d like your shortcuts in. You may want them in a Delphi Prism group, or if you’re installing as part of RAD Studio, you can click the “Browse” button and select the RAD Studio group. This only affects the location of the start menu shortcuts.
This dialog lets you select or de-select additional options. We recommend checking the “Show the Delphi Prism RSS Feed” box if you’d like to see the latest Delphi Prism news on the IDE start page.
Next you see a confirmation screen of what will be installed based on your choices.
As the install continues, you’ll see various dialogs showing which pieces are being installed.
There is no progress indicator on these dialogs where separate installers are silently installed. Don’t worry if it stays on each of these dialogs for several minutes each (up to 5 or more minutes each).
The installer will show “Installing Delphi Prism Feature Pack” for several minutes (usually 3-7 minutes) while it silently calls the Feature Pack installer.
Similar dialogs for installing Documentation and Extras go by faster.
Configuring Visual Studio takes several minutes.
When the install is complete, the dialog below is displayed.
Click the “Finish” button to complete this part of the installation and optionally display the ReadMe/Release Notes in a browser window.
You can optionally install InterBase Developer Edition by returning to the install launcher and clicking the “Install InterBase” button. You can get a free InterBase 2009 SMP Developer Edition serial number by email from http://downloads.embarcadero.com/free/interbase.
InterBase 2009 Developer Edition provides all developers the best cross-platform database to build and test database applications for embedded and SME segments. Developers are free to choose the standard connectivity they want and make use of a mature SQL92 compliant database for their applications. Database Performance monitoring allows the developer to streamline applications for optimal deployment. Learn more at http://www.embarcadero.com/products/interbase.
If you need to use ODBC to access InterBase, you can optionally install the InterBase ODBC driver by clicking the button for it in the install launcher. If you’re installing Delphi Prism as part of Embarcadero RAD Studio 2010 Architect edition, you’ll need the ODBC driver installed for the ER/Studio Developer Edition part of RAD Studio to work with InterBase.
Your Express Edition of InstallAware provides the industry-unique benefits of partial web deployment, 67% better compression, interactive Flash/HTML billboards, one-click runtime deployment, unlimited web updates, and one-click patching.
After you’re done installing all your desired software, click the Exit button to exit the launcher.
