General information on GFIX (when / why is the sweep kicking off automatically)
Abstract: General information on GFIX (when / why is the sweep kicking off automatically)
Problem:
How can we control the time in which a sweep starts.
Solution:
The automation of gfix (sweep) is controlled by the sweep interval setting.
If you have the setting set to 0, the sweep will never kick off automatically.
If you do this your database can become bloated over time and performance
will suffer. You will need to either manually run sweeps or use gbak and restore
to do it for you.
When using the automated sweep interval, it is triggered by the difference
between the OT (oldest transaction - committed) and the OAT or
OIT (oldest active or interesting transaction - not committed).
When the difference between these two numbers reaches the
"set" sweep interval the automated sweep process is fired off and a sweep
is started. During this time users may feel a performance loss.
