Remove all trace of InterBase from a Windows system.

Abstract: Remove all trace of InterBase from a Windows system.

I did not explicitly install InterBase; it was installed for me when I installed an application. The removal of the application did not remove InterBase. How can I completely remove InterBase from my machine? To remove InterBase from your Windows system:
  • Stop the InterBase server, if it is running.

  • Delete the entire installation directory and sub directories. Under InterBase 6 by the installation directory is C:\Program Files\Borland\InterBase.

  • Search your entire system for the file gds32.dll and delete every copy.

  • Check for and delete these registry entries. Some only apply to certain versions of InterBase or to particular OSes.
    • HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland\InterBase

    • HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland\UseCount

    • HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\InterBase Corp

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\InterBaseGuardian

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEMCurrentControlSet\Services\InterBaseServer

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs Search for and remove InterBase files; InterBase files will have the same path as the InterBase installation path. Some examples would be gds32.dll, and ibserver.exe
